By

In the never ending fight to keep the skin looking young and fresh people are indulging in a lot of different types of skin treatments. One such treatment that has always had a large following that swear by its excellent results is microdermabrasion facials.

This is a cosmetic procedure that strips away the top layer of dry dead skin cells. One of the biggest pluses for this type of treatment is that it is non-invasive and does not require any anesthesia. The whole procedure will take about 20 to 30 minutes and can be done alone as a single treatment or it can be combined with your monthly facial. It is so simple that it can be done either at a dermatologist's office or at your favorite spa on their facial microdermabrasion equipment.

Most people choose facial microdermabrasion treatment to reduce the fine lines on the face. It can also be used in treating enlarged pores, rough textured skin, wrinkles and age spots. Another skin complaint this has good results with is acne treatment.

To get the best results and maintain them this type of facial treatment should be carried out on a regular basis. If you choose the spa or dermatologist's office then once a month is recommended If you want to try the at-home microdermabrasion machines and kits that are available then they are normally mild enough to be used on a weekly basis in your home.

Facial microdermabrasion has three main types of treatments; there is crystal microdermabrasion, diamond microdermabrasion and the at-home microdermabrasion kits. Diamond peeling is the latest type of technology in the facial microdermabrasion range. This works with the use of an exfoliating tool that has a very small diamond on its tip. This is a treatment that can be carried out either by your skin therapist or the dermatologist. It involves the tip of the exfoliating tool being firmly though gently drawn across the patient's skin, thus removing the top layer of dead skin cells. The skin is then vacuumed or sucked to remove the loose skin from the face.

This process has a two-fold effect on the skin. Firstly, it increases the blood flow and the suction effect stimulates the skin to produce collagen and elastin that are a natural part of the skin's make up. By increasing the blood flow and stimulating the skin's production of collagen and elastin your skin will take on a stronger look.

Crystal facial microdermabrasion is the technique of spraying micro-crystals of aluminum dioxide that have been reduced to a powder formulation onto the skin. Even though the aluminum oxide has been reduced to a powder form it is still a very hard but fine substance. This technique is very much like sand blasting because the aluminum has been reduced it is used to blast the top layer of dead cells from the skin. This can cause a slight discomfort for the person receiving the treatment especially around the sensitive areas like the mouth and nose. Once the procedure is complete your therapist or dermatologist will vacuum away any residue that is left on the skin.

Just as with many of the popular facial treatments that start their life in a doctor's office, microdermabrasion face has now found its way into our home with the arrival of at home kits. Where most treatments at a spa will care for a vast range of skin problems the at home kits will usually only focus on four skin remedies these being; skin surface, skin tone, complexion and the pores. You will find that they will vary greatly in price and in how effective they are, so its best to shop around and try different types until you find the one that best suits you.

The at home kits use the same type of crystal that you find in the spa treatment except that the crystals have been formulated into a cream. These products vary in the way they are applied. Some are simply put on using your hands some others will come with a sponge or cleansing cloth. After the cream has been applied and the treatment finished you simply wash and thoroughly rinse the skin. At home kits can come in face and full body scrubs, the facial types are a lot milder than those used for the whole body.

There are also new devices for facial microdermabrasion at home. They use a special cream along with the tool to remove the dead skin from the face. This is a great alternative to going to a salon as the price is less expensive and you can use it whenever you wish.

Facial microdermabrasion is very beneficial to the skin. You can try it at home or in a salon and see if it works for you.
