The New Psoriasis Treatment
58Psoriasis is a disease that attacks when the immune system of a person is very weak and does not function properly. It sends out an incorrect signal, which accelerates the growth rate of the skin cells. The skin cells grow too fast and leave layers of dead skin.
This is a chronic non-contagious disease characterized by inflamed scaly red patches on the skin that turn silvery-white as the excessive skin growth is accumulating. The scaly patches are called psoriatic plaques. These skin plaques appear on the knees, elbows, palms, soles of the feet, scalp and even in the genital areas. This skin disorder recurs chronically and its severity varies. It can be minor or may cover the whole body area.
Here are some of the effects that a new psoriasis treatment will remedy. Psoriatic nail dystrophy affects the toenails and fingernails. It also causes joint inflammation known as psoriatic arthritis, which affects almost fifteen percent of patients who have this skin disorder.
The main cause of psoriasis is not yet known, but experts believe it is related to the person's genetics. The good news is there are triggering factors of this disease, which are: consuming too much alcohol, smoking, stress, poor diet and some forms of medication.
There are number of people who suffer the pain and irritation caused by this disease, but with today's innovative world of medication, new psoriasis treatment can be tried to eliminate this disease from the body. Here are some of the new treatments for psoriasis:
* Tazorac. This new psoriasis treatment is a fourth generation of retinoids, an animal form of vitamin A. Simple retinoid acids were not showing any positive results in the treatment of psoriasis that is why the makers of Tazorac studied it as a topical therapy option for this skin disease. Products that contain Tazorac are reported to be safe to use since the absorption rate of this chemical is very low. It is less likely that it will cause harm to the body. This product should be applied to the affected area twice a day. The result will significantly show after a week and could last up to two months even if the use of the product is discontinued.
* Vitamin D Family. A complete disappearance of psoriasis was observed with the osteoporosis treatment using calcitriol, which is an oral form of vitamin D3. However, the use is highly limited as it can raise the level of calcium in the body, which may cause kidney stones. Because of this, calcitriol was used topically to treat psoriasis and it indeed produced positive results. The downside is this can cause some irritation to the skin and can still increase the level of calcium in the body when it is used in large quantities.
There are numerous topical variations that have been tried which cause less skin irritation and minimal side effects when taken orally. The new forms that were developed are tacalcitol, KH1060, and calcipotriol. Among the three, calcipotriol is safe and effective to use even from ages two to fourteen.
* Immunosupressors. While not a new psoriasis treatment, the effectiveness of this medication in curing psoriasis was only one of the side effects of cyclosporin. Cyclosporin is a drug that is being used during the process of liver, kidney and heart transplants and to make the transplanted organ accepted by the new host body. Cyclosporin's molecules are too large to be absorbed by the skin that is why it is not effective to use in topical treatments.
To better address a skin problem such as psoriasis, combinations of effective oral and topical treatments can be used. If a new psoriasis treatment is considered, is advisable to consult a dermatologist to determine the severity of the skin disorder so that the accurate method will be applied. The other thing that you can do is take a natural route to solving your psoriasis problem. Treating psoriasis is not limited to putting something topically on your breakouts or taking drugs with side effects. Some new psoriasis treatments address the problems within the body, which is where the problems originate. It includes drastic changes in diet, lifestyle, taking supplements, doing enemas or colonics and other steps. Doing these things can stop the breakouts for good. The trick is that you have to stick with these changes, if you don't the psoriasis will come back again and again. There are several books available that have the new treatment for psoriasis. If you are stubborn, you can always stick to the old way. Just don't eat any pepperoni pizza or all of the hard work you have out into getting rid of your psoriasis will be for nothing, because it will return with a vengeance. The diet plays the biggest factor in triggering psoriasis attacks. Nightshades such as tomatoes and eggplants have been linked to the disease. Use a new psoriasis treatment and clean up your diet if you want to get rid of psoriasis for good.

I haven't heard of a lot of these treatments. Why hasn't my doctor suggested any of them?
